A Guide to Video Poker

Apr 21, 2012 by

If you enjoy playing online slots games, you might want to try your hand at online video poker. Video poker combines the basic idea of a slot machine with the rules of poker to create a new, exciting and easy to master game. Unlike in other varieties of online poker, players do not compete against each other but against the random number generators embedded in each video poker machine. Mastering the art of video poker requires both strategy and luck.

The video poker machine is virtually loaded with a standard pack of 52 cards that are randomly shuffled. When the player ‘deals’ the cards, a poker hand of five cards is revealed. Players can then decide if they want to hold or discard up to three cards, as in other varieties of poker. Once these cards are discarded, if at all, the player deals again, hopefully improving their hand in the process.

The game of video poker does require knowledge of the basics of poker, as players will need to know what makes up a good hand and how to recognise the start of a Royal Flush when they see one. As any other form of poker, deciding when to hold and when to discard becomes easier with practise. After the second deal has taken place, the game is over and any winnings are credited immediately. The next round starts from scratch.

Common Beginner’s Mistakes in Poker

Apr 4, 2012 by

The game of poker can seem overwhelming for beginners. There is a new jargon to learn, poker hands to recognise, probabilities to calculate and strategies to assess. It is not surprising, therefore, that a lot of beginners fall into the same traps when learning the game. In fact, this is a part of the learning process. The important thing is to learn from your mistakes, recognising when and why they are happening and adapting your play to make sure they never happen again.

The first mistake beginners often make is one of enthusiasm. People starting to play poker are keen to try their luck, and will take chances that more experienced players would simply dismiss and fold. Beginners also often overestimate the strength of their hand, making them overconfident when they should be cautious. Some players are simply too cautious and do not take advantage when they are dealt very strong hands; there is a balance to be had between these two mistakes.

Overenthusiastic beginners also bluff far more than is sensible. Bluffing is an important part of playing poker, but it is not the only strategy to adopt and in fixed limit games it can simply be a waste of time.

Experienced players learn to set aside their emotions before they reach the table, but beginners will often become emotionally involved in the game. This leads to people chasing down losses when they should just chalk the game up to experience, or to calling hands when they should fold.

When first learning poker there is a lot to remember and this can lead to beginners focusing on their own hands and forgetting to think about their opponents’ hands and potential strategies. This is an important mistake that can lead to a beginner overestimating the strength of their position. However, like many of these mistakes, it is usually corrected by time and practice.

Choosing An Internet Bookmaker

Mar 21, 2012 by

Gone are the days when people looking to make a free bet on the football match of the day were stuck with just their local bookie. The internet has empowered every customer to make the best choices possible, with location no longer an issue. Top quality bookies up and down the length of the country have set up easy to use websites that make it easier than ever to start football betting, from local matches to premier league betting. Never before have punters had such a wide choice of places to entrust their bets with.

Needless to say all this choice means that betters should try to take advantage of the situations by getting the best deals. Internet bookmakers vary in a number of ways that makes picking one for your needs easy. The first thing that customers will probably notice when searching for a bookmaker, is that they will recognise some names, while others will be unfamiliar. The internet betting industry is growing at a huge rate, so the number of bookmaker companies that open and close every year is correspondingly large. Customers may be tempted to go for a good looking deal at an unfamiliar company, but be aware that some have financial troubles that can prevent them from honouring winnings. On the other hand, plenty of new companies are trustworthy. The best way to judge is to search betting forums to find out about users’ experiences with the site. If in doubt, an established bookie’s is certainly the best way to go – these companies have a reputation to uphold and will not disappear overnight.

Played worldwide and rapidly increasing in popularity, darts is a tense and gripping game requiring accuracy in throwing and nerves of steel. Best known in its classic format of 501, the game has made darts betting a growing part of the choice for gamblers.

There are top darts competitions all over the world and two world championship events, one organised by the British Darts Association (BDA) and the other by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Darts betting has been around for centuries in pubs and clubs in the UK and now there are more and more opportunities to bet on darts both online and in bookmakers’ shops.

Grand Prix darts betting is a top draw for gamblers, with plenty of odds from which to choose. Most common is to bet on the overall winner of winners of particular matches, but there are other options, such as winners of games or sets, or how many top scores of 180 a player might make in a tournament.

There are dozens of online and offline opportunities for darts betting, and signing up for a new account is easy. It can also be lucrative because many online bookmakers offer bonuses for first time depositors.

The best way to learn about poker is by playing the game.  Of course, it is important not to jump into the game too fast and gamble too much money before gaining a proper understanding of the rules and regulations.  Beginners could start by entering games for low stakes, or practising with free games.  Once you have mastered the basics watching more experienced players, and practicing your skills against them, will help improve your game.  Watching the game, reading about it and talking to other players is helpful, but the best way to learn poker is by playing as much as possible.
