Choosing a paint colour for a room is more than simply picking something you like, there are a number of things that need to be taken into consideration to make sure you get it right. You don’t want a room which is too dark, or feels cold and sterile. Unless you’re completely re-decorating/refurbishing your room, you also need to make sure your new wall colour goes with your current furniture as well.

Looking online or in magazines for inspiration is a good place to start. Make a collage of colour schemes you like before heading to the DIY store and looking for paint samples. If you want more than one colour in your room, start off by looking for the darkest/boldest colour first, then work around this. Paint books and cards tend to be deceptive; the only real way to tell is with paint samples. Base colours in the paints can also alter when tow colours are together, so it’s important to find out what base colours are in there, whether it’s a yellow base colour, blue or red, it can have an effect on the final look especially when mixing more than one colour in a room.

Choose your colour and opt for three different shades at least to find the right one for your room. If you don’t want to paint patches on your wall, you can paint your swatches onto lining paper and tack them to the wall to compare. However if your existing wall colour is dark, you may need to think about adding a base coat before adding your final colour, to get the right shade.

You may want to have a mix of two or more paints, don’t be afraid to use different shades of one colour, or even be brave and use clashing colours. These tend to work best with a plain white wall, something that helps them stand out but not dominate. You don’t want to mix too many colours mind; otherwise it could make your room feel smaller. You can also opt for wall paper and paint mixes, possibly looking for a bold print against a soft neutral paint colour. Before you buy wallpaper, try your ideas out with samples, or just one roll and mix and match with paint colours until you get the right combination.

Winter is only just leaving us in the Northern Hemisphere, but many countries around the world are already basking in that summer sunshine that everyone wants to see a bit of. If you’re already starting to think about your summer holiday for 2013, look no further than this guide to the top destinations for this summer.

Marmaris, Turkey

Turkey is a country that has been rising in popularity steadily for the past few years and now enjoys its spot as one of the favourite holiday destinations for holiday makers around the world. Visit Marmaris this summer and you’ll be guaranteed a lot of hot sun as well as fun. The bay is protected on all sides by pine-peaked mountains and has crystal clear waters for swimming. Take in the nightlife at the now infamous Bar Street then relax the day away in the sun. There’s plenty for kids to do, and heaps of history and culture for those interested.

Benidorm, Spain

This wouldn’t be a list of any holiday destinations without Benidorm – it has everything a tourist could wish for: sun, sea, sand, music and food. Take the kids to one of the many theme parks around the town including Mundomar and Terra Mitica; dance the night away in the Old Town; or simply lounge around the pool and bask in the sun.

Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt

Sharm el Sheikh is the perfect resort for those who love the sun on the beach. Located on the Sinai Peninsula, the cosmopolitan resort is fantastic for snorkelling and diving in the nearby Ras Mohammed National Park which offers some brilliantly colourful sea life.

Dominican Republic

If you like your holidays to be a little more far flung, why not try staying in the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2013? Of course it has numerous beautiful white sandy beaches, but it also offers a huge range of activities for the more adventurous among your family such as white water rafting and monster trucking.

Orlando, Florida

This is the one place the kids will love to visit. Remember summer isn’t just about lounging around in the sun on beaches when you have a family, you need to keep them entertained too! Home to Disneyworld, Seaworld and Universal Studios, you definitely won’t be stuck for things to do.

There are a number of mistakes people make when it comes to dieting, however it’s not hard to understand why when there is so much contradicting advice out there and that’s before you look at all the different diets there are.

Crash Dieting

Some people opt for crash dieting, because they have an event coming up such as a wedding or holiday and find they don’t have long to lose weight. However although crash diets work in the short term, they cause problems in the long term and can cause you to put on more weight than you originally lost.

When you crash diet you lose fat, lean muscle and tissue, this also comes with health risks including slowing your metabolic rate down. This means when you stop dieting your body will need fewer calories, however most people tend to revert back to portion sizes they were eating before, causing quicker weight gain. It’s best to go slow and steady, to get your body used to the change, it will take longer but the results will also last longer.

Skipping Meals

Skipping major meals is not beneficial, many people skip breakfast when on a diet as they believe it’s the best way to lose weight. However all it does is cause you to crave more food throughout the day. There is a reason why breakfast is known as the most important meal of the day: It’s because when you eat a healthy breakfast it boosts your metabolism and throughout the day your metabolism slows down, which is why you eat more at the beginning than the end of the day.

Keep to your set three meals a day, if you miss any your disrupting your metabolism, which makes it much harder to lose weight, You will also find yourself being hungrier so when you do eat, you are more likely to gorge on more food and more unhealthy foods.

Just remember: Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper.

Not Exercising

Exercising is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and it is imperative to dieting and losing weight. You may lose some weight by cutting down what you eat and eating healthy, but after a while plateau. This is where exercise comes in, following an exercise routine will help you lose weight quicker, help you to keep the weight off and help towards a healthier lifestyle.

You don’t need to punish yourself at the gym, keep on with gentle exercise, building up to more physical if you want. A little exercise is better than none at all so make sure you do something you enjoy, to keep you motivated and eventually it will become second nature.

In the UK, local councils and the highway authorities are responsible for the upkeep of footpaths and roads. If someone receives an injury because a footpath or road has not been properly maintained, they may be able to claim for compensation.

If someone is injured owing to a fall on a local authority footpath, for example, one of the first things they should do is contact an accident solicitors firm to enquire about the validity of a claim. Accident compensation specialists will be able to guide them through the compensation process and many firms operate on the basis of no-win no-fee. As such, there is no risk to the accident victim making a claim and furthermore, they will get to keep all of the compensation if they win their case.

Accident victims are frequently reluctant to claim for compensation because they think the process will be complex and drawn-out, but accident specialists will ensure that any case taken will be straightforward and expedited as quickly as possible, so that the victim can obtain the compensation they are entitled to.

If you want to get around the Capital, easily without any hassle then bed and breakfast hotel the Jesmond Dene will fit the bill with the convenience of close proximity to transport links as well as excellent value in accommodation. It’s one of a number of Kings Cross hotels which keep you close to vital transport links.

From their base at the Jesmond Dene hotel, visitors are a mere two minutes walk from the underground station at King’s Cross, and are within easy reach of all of London’s top tourist attractions. Close to the top of any visitor’s list of places to see in London is sure to be Trafalgar Square. Named in honour of the Battle of Trafalgar, a famous British naval victory in 1805 during the Napoleonic Wars, the square is overlooked by the famous Nelson’s Column, commemorating Admiral Horatio Nelson, who died at Trafalgar. The square is also home to the National Gallery, an art museum boasting an impressive array of historic paintings.

Visitors to Trafalgar Square will find that it adjoins The Mall, a roadway that leads to another of London’s most famous sites, Buckingham Palace, the official residence in the capital of the monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. Parts of the palace, including the elegant State Rooms, are opened to the public for a number of days each year, typically stretching across July and August. A State Rooms and Garden Highlights Tour is also available to visitors. At all times of the year, visitors can take photographs of Buckingham Palace from the gates and pose, like so many others have done, in front of the impressive Victoria Memorial, in front of the palace.

The Mall also provides access to St. James’s Park, one of London’s many green spaces and one of the official Royal Parks of London.

London Collections Men -The first full men’s fashion week to be hosted in London, took place at the beginning of the year. It meant that menswear in the UK’s capital is no longer the poor cousin of the women’s wear iconic fashion week: time that was tagged onto the end of the spectacle when seemingly everyone else is packing away the main show. Instead, every major fashion capital of the world (except New York) now has a standalone event dedicated to men’s fashion. The Council of Fashion Designers in America appears to be more seriously working towards hosting its own event and the recent success of New York’s women’s fashion week should only strengthen the desire to catch up with the rest of the world. Men’s fashion is now being given the recognition it deserves, but what does this say about the way your average person is viewing his attire?

A few years ago, the idea of the ‘normal’ man using moisturiser or wearing concealer provoked a derisory response. Now, the idea of men not being committed to a daily beauty regime appears fanciful; they have skin too so why should they not look after it? Likewise, the ability to choose a clothing style from a broader (and more creative) offering seems natural in that it can only engender individuality and provide an easier means of expressing a distinct personality outwardly. It is ingrained in the Milanese that menswear should be afforded the same showcase status as women’s wear receives across the globe, and rightly so.

London Collections Men highlighted how creative menswear can be and represented a statement of intent to the fashion world. It tested the boundaries of what is acceptable for everyday dressing in much the same way as London Fashion Week does for women’s clothing and, in the process, will inspire thousands.

New York take note!

Coronary heart disease is the biggest killer in the UK and causes approximately 82,000 deaths each year. It affects 1 in 5 males and 1 in 8 females who ultimately die of the condition.

The main symptoms of coronary heart disease are heart attacks and heart failure, and it is estimated that up to 2.7 million people in the UK suffer from the condition. A common symptom of Coronary heart disease is angina which is pain in the chest caused by lack of blood supply to the muscles of the heart.

What causes Coronary heart disease?

Coronary heart disease happens when the blood supply to or from your heart is restricted or interrupted by a build-up of fatty materials in the coronary arteries. These fatty deposits can be caused by lifestyle habits including:

•	High blood pressure
•	High cholesterol
•	Smoking
•	Diabetes

How to diagnose Coronary heart disease

If your doctor feels that you are at risk of contracting Coronary heart disease they will conduct a risk assessment. This involves questions about your lifestyle and family history as well as taking a blood test.

If the blood test is inconclusive then other test may be required; these include:
•	An ECG (electrocardiogram)

•	An MRI scan
•	An X-ray
•	A ST scan
•	Coronary angiography

Treating coronary heart disease

Coronary heart disease cannot be cured, but advance in medical treatment means that the symptoms of the disease can help reduce the chance of heart attacks. Treatments include lifestyle changes including quitting smoking, partaking in regular exercise and changing your diet. Medication and surgery may also be given as a preventative measure.

One half of the dynamic brotherly duo who launched the band Oasis and gave us hits such as ‘Wonderwall’, Liam Gallagher, is keeping himself busy with other creative outlets. Not only is he the front man and brains behind new band, Beady Eye, he has also launched and designed his own fashion label, named Pretty Green.

The brand is home-grown, British men’s fashion at its most stylish and boasts two distinct lines. Green Label delivers casual, wearable signature pieces for every day dress. Black Label uses the finest fabrics, the highest quality and most innovative British tailoring. Not limited to garments, Pretty Green produces footwear, eyewear and accessories too and has enjoyed particular popularity with the Japanese as well as the UK menswear market.

The label has outlets in London’s Covent Garden and Carnaby Street and is embarking on an expansion plan to open a total of 12 stores throughout the UK. The first shop, according to Gallagher, is a flagship store in London’s most highly sought-after retail district, Regent Street.
